What is a Lucky 31?
A Lucky 31 is 31 bets across 5 selections: 5 singles, 10 doubles, 10 trebles, 5 four-folds, and 1 five-fold accumulator. Like a Lucky 15, it covers every possible combination — meaning even one winner gives you a return. A £1 Lucky 31 costs £31 (or £62 each way).
Lucky 31 vs Lucky 15
A Lucky 15 covers 4 selections with 15 bets. A Lucky 31 covers 5 selections with 31 bets — more coverage but double the cost. The extra selection adds significantly to the potential returns because the five-fold and four-fold combinations multiply all five sets of odds together.
When to use a Lucky 31
Lucky 31s work best when your 5 selections are at 3/1 or above. At shorter prices, the singles return little relative to the £31 outlay. At longer prices, the consolation bonus on a single winner and the exponential growth of the higher combinations make the maths more attractive.
How the Lucky 31 calculator works
How returns are calculated
Each of the 31 bets is calculated independently. For singles, it's straightforward — odds × stake. For doubles, two sets of odds are multiplied together. For trebles, three sets. Four-folds multiply four, and the five-fold multiplies all five sets of odds together.
Your total return is the sum of all 31 individual bet returns. The calculator shows you each bet separately so you can see exactly where your returns come from.
What happens when a selection is void
If a selection is void (non-runner in horse racing, postponed match), it's removed from every bet it appears in. A double containing a void selection becomes a single. A treble becomes a double. The five-fold becomes a four-fold. Your stake is effectively redistributed at reduced odds.
Is a Lucky 31 worth it?
Lucky 31s work best when you have five selections at reasonable odds (typically 3/1 or higher). At short prices, the singles return very little and the extra bets add cost without much reward. At longer prices, the four-folds and five-fold provide exponential returns when multiple selections win.
Remember: a Lucky 31 is 31 separate bets, so a £1 Lucky 31 means each bet is only about 3.2p. Some bookmakers have minimum stake-per-line requirements.
